UPM Biofuels was honoured on 11th of December as a Sustainable Innovation finalist by the Platts Global Energy Awards 2014 for its renewable diesel, UPM BioVerno, in New York. This global award focuses on the research and development, ingenuity and commercialization potential of new technologies, before their state of deployment.
The Platts Global Energy Awards have recognised individual and corporate innovations and leadership in the global energy industry over the past 16 years.
Finalists were chosen from a list of nearly 250 nominations from 26 countries across 6 continents by the independent panel of judges including former regulators, past heads of major energy companies, leading academics and international energy experts. Dominated by American Energy corporates, UPM Biofuels was one of the few European companies among the finalists.
"We applaud each of the 2014 Platts Global Energy Awards finalists for their accomplishments, contributions and commitment to the world's energy future," said Larry Neal, President of Platts.
Platts also hosted its Global Energy Outlook Forum, which brought together hundreds of leading economists, academics, industry executives and government officials for discussion and debate on the world's most pressing energy issues in New York. Now in its eighth year, the 2014 Platts Global Energy Outlook Forum was entitled “Transition & Transformation", and focused on changing dynamics across the energy infrastructure.
