UPM Biofuels was honoured on 13th of January as a Commercial Scale Plant of the Year finalist by the global WBM Bio Business Awards 2015 for its UPM Lappeenranta biorefinery in Finland producing wood-based renewable diesel, UPM BioVerno. This global award presented by World Bio Markets, celebrating its 10th anniversary, recognises business excellence and innovation in the bio-based industry. It focuses on the bio-pioneers that are launching the industry into mainstream commercial markets.
Finalists were chosen by the independent panel of judges including leading CEOs and professionals from the global bio-based industry. The Judging criteria included among other things how ambitious and innovative the project has been and how the project benchmarks in the context of the industry as a whole.
The WBM Bio Business Awards will take place on Monday, 2 March 2015 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The Awards will celebrate the leading pacesetters in bio-markets from around the world.
