Transition from fossils to renewables

We co-operate closely on sustainability issues throughout our entire value chain. We are committed to continuously developing our own responsible sourcing practices to be more transparent and better partners.

We are involved in complex value chains and production processes where few raw materials are refined to multiple solutions including fuels and various chemicals. These value chains are still very much dominated by fossil feedstocks and sustainable raw materials still represent a minor part of the global flows.

Therefore, we need mass balance to support the shift and at the same time ensure that the used sustainable feedstock is rightfully represented in the complex value chains.

Mass balance and how it works

Mass balance allows a gradual transition from fossil raw materials to renewables. The mass balance system ensures that only the claimed amount of renewable feedstock can be pushed forward in the value chain. Mass balance brings the full benefits of sustainable renewable feedstock to the end users. Each tonne of renewable naphtha replaces one tonne of fossil naphtha, saving fossil resources and emissions. Mass balance is always verified in the auditing by external third party to ensure its credibility.
